“To me, heartbreak hotel is a letter of comfort left on the dresser of the hotel room for whoever checks in next. It’s a song about healing yourself through a moment of darkness, because you’re strong enough and deserving enough. It’s a song that describes the beautiful and honest moment where you finally realise that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you’re already 3/4 of the way through that tunnel. The heartbreak hotel is a place you check into in your mind when you’re at your lowest, whether it be due or heartbreak, loss, mental health or the f***ing heaviness of the human experience. I feel like, along with these feeling there’s an assumption that it’s a prison and an experience that has doomed fate. And yes, the discomfort and messiness that is ‘heartbreak’ sometimes sticks around for a minute, but through giving yourself time, love and honesty you can heal yourself. I think anyone who has been in a heavy low, can relate to the experience that one day you wake up and just feel a noticeable shift, where the air feels slightly fresher and your heart feels lighter and you come out of a trance, and it’s like your love energy is slowly regenerating. This is the moment heartbreak hotel was written, as a self reminder to focus that love energy inwards because no one is more deserving of my love than myself 💕
